one-on-one with a k-state fan
Here's a small exchange I had with a Wildcat fan regarding the Cotton Bowl matchup between No. 6 Arkansas and No. 8 Kansas State.
Rumil: Your thoughts on the matchup for the Cotton Bowl.
Brennan: It could be a fun one. I definitely think we’ll have our hands full with your team, they’re a great group I have a lot of respect for. We like to run the ball a lot and eat up as much clock as possible. That’s what Arkansas will have to prevent us from doing. Our weakness is definitely pass defense. You certainly have the more talented team, but we’ve been underdogs in almost every game this season and exceeded expectations. I’m hoping for a great game! (I also think both our teams deserved a BCS bowl)
Rumil: Yes, there were snubs this season, but this was the biggest. Definitely interesting that each team's offensive strength matches up against other's defensive weakness. Who are your biggest playmakers? I know your quarterback is quite a handful.
Brennan: Our QB, Collin Klein, has carried the weight of the offense most this season. You’ll have to stop him from running. The others would be our running back Jon Huebert and receiver Chris Harper. Our QB’s certainly the guy to be most worried about, though.
Rumil: Summaries about your offense, defense, and special teams? What worries you most about Arkansas?
Brennan: The offense will mostly be powered by Collin Klein and John Hubert with the run game, when we do pass, the guy to watch for will be John Hubert, but rushing will likely make up most of our game. Our defense is strongest at the linebacker position, particularly, Arthur Brown, one of biggest impact players on the team. Our secondary is our weak point with the exception of cornerback Nigel Malone. Our special teams return game does well, but is weaker with the loss of return man Tyler Lockett (out for the season). The kicking game is pretty strong all around whether it’s our place kicker or punter, both consistently perform well. Stopping Arkansas’s passing game is certainly what worries me most.
Rumil: Dare to make a prediction? And what will/would need to happen for that to come true?
Brennan: Not sure if I can make a prediction. If Arkansas takes it I think they win by 10-14, if we win, it’ll likely be by 3-7, something close. Both will come down to defense, how well we can stop the pass and move the ball, and how well Arkansas can slow Collin Klein.
Big thanks to Brennan. Check him out at: http://jacketweather.tumblr.com/

It's that time of year again for high school...
thebookishbiologist:
I think that around this time is when a lot of high school seniors who have applied to colleges are sitting around waiting for letters and looking for money. I don’t particularly know why I’m doing this.
More importantly, the deadlines for a lot of scholarships are coming up. So, here are some links. I think I got the two year and four colleges, but I might have missed...

thebookishbiologist:
If you receive a 32/1410 on the ACT/SAT you qualify and can apply for the Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship. This gives you $10000 to attend anywhere in Arkansas.
In addition, several colleges will cover the full cost of tuition and fees with their own scholarship if you receive this.
Which means, you have a full college scholarship in the state of Arkansas.
The trick...

I really do not know if I’m going to get in trouble for using the S4C name, but I figure that Rob isn’t going to be too terribly mad.
Each year, the number of people that have cancer rises dramatically here in the state of Arkansas. The number of families, friends, loved ones, and communities affected by this horrible disease also skyrockets. We may not be able to cure it, but...

traylor-trash asked: I just saw your post about K-State thinking that it's degrading to us as a team to play Arkansas...well, I'd just like to say that the website/forum you got that from is just ONE person's opinion, not then entire fan bases. I bleed purple and I know that Arkansas is a great team. Their big thing is that we are #8 BCS ranked and we didn't even get in a BCS bowl, so they're...

I saw this link on Facebook and thought you all might like to take a look. Apparently KSU thinks they’ll look bad to the rest of the country because they’re stuck playing such a “small-time” team as Arkansas. I had a nice half hour of laughing earlier so I thought you all might like some entertainment. Especially those of you who will be taking finals in the coming weeks.
